US Bars DeepSeek From Federal Civilian Agencies and Government Contracts

Bloomberg Technology ↗

The Department of Homeland Security has ordered all federal civilian agencies to stop using DeepSeek products and remove any existing deployments from their IT systems. The order also bars the Chinese AI lab from taking part in federal government contracts. DHS warned that DeepSeek could transfer sensitive data on US government employees and vendors to the Chinese government and that its models could contain malware or security vulnerabilities. The move came days after DeepSeek released its V4.1 Flash model.

Anthropic Plans to Commit 5% of Its Shares to a Public Benefit Fund

Anthropic plans to allocate 5% of its shares to a new Public Benefit Fund, subject to stockholder approval. The board could add another 2% for each 50% valuation increase above a baseline, with worker disruption among the potential uses. Liquid AI Releases 24B Open-Weight Model for Fast Local Agents

Liquid AI released LFM2.5-24B-A2B, a reasoning model with 24 billion total parameters, 2 billion active per token and a 131,072-token context window. The company reports 184 tokens per second on an Apple M5 Max and stronger results than larger rivals on several tool-use tests, while acknowledging weaker coding and knowledge scores. Downloadable weights and support for MLX and llama.cpp make it a practical option for private agents running locally.

Google Makes Gemini 4 Argon Broadly Available at a Limited-Time $2/$10 API Price

Google rolled out Gemini 4 Argon globally through the Gemini API, to Google AI Pro subscribers in the Gemini app and AI Mode, and in its Antigravity coding tool for Ultra subscribers. The model is priced at an introductory $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens until November 30, after which the rate doubles to $4 and $20. Argon had been restricted since its late September announcement, when Google limited early access to trusted cybersecurity users over safety concerns. There is no free tier, so only paying users and developers can use it.
