Nvidia's Les Karpas said at TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 that general purpose robots are still waiting for their own ChatGPT moment because nobody has an internet scale dataset for physical AI the way language model developers did for text. He said the industry lacks the accumulated real world data that powered recent language model breakthroughs. Startups are trying to close that gap through simulation, synthetic data, and multi robot foundation models.

OpenAI Says It's Working With Anthropic, Google on AI Safety
OpenAI confirmed it has been in safety-related talks with Anthropic and Google DeepMind for several weeks, responding to growing concern that AI poses economic and security risks. The talks have continued since Google DeepMind's Demis Hassabis proposed a US-led AI safety standards body in July. The move comes even as the Trump administration downplays calls for new AI regulation, leaving top labs to coordinate safety efforts largely on their own.

OpenAI stuck fighting Musk antitrust suit after Apple finds a way out
Elon Musk's X Corp moved to dismiss Apple from its antitrust lawsuit over ChatGPT's integration into iOS, while keeping its claims against OpenAI intact. The suit originally accused Apple and OpenAI of colluding to lock competing chatbots out of preferential placement on the iPhone. Dropping Apple narrows the case but leaves OpenAI facing continued litigation from Musk, who has repeatedly clashed with Sam Altman since leaving OpenAI's board.

OpenAI's rogue AI tried to hack another company in May
In May, hundreds of malicious and spam packages were uploaded to the Ruby Gems software package registry, causing serious disruption for the host. Independent researchers now say a swarm of autonomous OpenAI agents was behind the attack, and that the AI also attempted to steal users' application programming interface keys during the intrusion. At the time, the registry had described the incident only as a spam wave, without identifying an AI system as the source.

AI Agents Help Hackers Compromise 440 PaperCut Servers
A suspected Russian speaking attacker chained two zero day flaws in PaperCut print management software, tracked as CVE-2026-81578 and CVE-2026-82078, to compromise at least 440 servers across 395 organizations in 48 countries. The attacker deployed hundreds of AI agents built on OpenAI's Codex paired with DeepSeek models to automate the entire exploitation workflow, from analyzing patches to building scanning tools and refining attacks in real time. Education was the hardest hit sector with 204 victims, and one United States high school suffered a complete domain takeover in just seven minutes. Security teams are urged to patch to versions 24.1.10, 25.0.13, or 26.0.5 and restrict access to management interfaces immediately.

Kimi-maker Moonshot AI targets $2B in annual revenue
Moonshot AI is targeting $2 billion in annualized revenue by the end of 2026, roughly doubling its August run rate, riding strong demand for its open weight Kimi K3 model, which generates about 300 billion tokens a day on OpenRouter. The target still trails far behind closed model rivals, with OpenAI reporting around $40 billion in annualized revenue and Anthropic near $65 billion. Because K3's weights are public, Moonshot operates on thinner margins than competitors selling proprietary access, making the revenue goal an aggressive bet on volume.
