  1. Anthropic Replaces Git After Daily Code Merges Jump Past 30,000

Anthropic built Scion, an internal version-control system, and migrated its monorepo from Git in five months as daily merges rose from about 2,500 in May to over 30,000 in September. It also built Antique for code review, while shifting history, merges and repository queries to a scalable server service. The company says AI-generated code has moved its bottleneck from writing software to source control, builds and continuous integration.

  2. Linus Torvalds Is Now Using AI to Write Linux Kernel Code

Linux creator Linus Torvalds has published an experimental kernel branch whose patches, test programs and first draft description were written with Claude Code under his direction. The eight-patch series lets the kernel read from the page cache without reference counting, and on his laptop one benchmark jumped from about 10 million reads per second to 30 to 33 million. He also used AI tools to untangle a hard-to-read kernel library, uncovering three additional bugs dating back to 2013. Torvalds said he now genuinely likes using AI as a tool, while warning that AI-generated contributions add real burden for maintainers.

  3. Epic Games Delays Disney Shooter and Orders an "AI First" Rebuild With No Hand-Written Code

Epic Games has delayed its upcoming Disney shooter, which had been slated for March, and told developers to adopt an AI-first production model, Bloomberg reported. A director reportedly wrote in an internal message that the team should stop writing code by hand and generate all art with full AI workflows, with staff directed to use Anthropic's Claude and oversee its output. CEO Tim Sweeney said the company has a huge pivot underway, moving developers around to retool for maximum AI acceleration. Some developers reportedly reacted poorly, and Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic in 2024 as part of the collaboration.

  1. Microsoft Revamps Copilot With a Persistent Autopilot Agent to Compete With Anthropic

Microsoft is overhauling its Copilot app for corporate users, combining chat, coding tools, and a new persistent agent called Autopilot that keeps working on assigned objectives even when no one is actively using it. Autopilot gets its own identity, memory, and workspace inside a company's Microsoft 365 environment, and Microsoft says it can monitor conversations, handle recurring tasks, and pick a project back up after several days away. The unified app lets users choose between OpenAI's GPT models, Anthropic's Claude Opus, or an automatic mode that selects a model for them. The launch is a direct response to Anthropic's growing traction in the enterprise market, with Autopilot moving into private preview by the end of the month.

  1. OpenAI to end model access to Cursor after acquisition by Elon Musk's SpaceX

OpenAI announced it will cut off developer access to its models through Cursor, citing concerns that SpaceX, which acquired the AI coding startup in a $60 billion deal earlier this month, will not use the technology within OpenAI's terms of service. The proposed shutoff date is November 12, 2026, affecting roughly 5% of Cursor user traffic and escalating the long-running feud between OpenAI and Elon Musk. The decision highlights growing friction between major AI labs and rivals building vertically integrated ecosystems, and it raises immediate questions for startups that depend on third-party model APIs.

  3. SWE Refactor Bench: Can Coding Agents Complete a Long-Horizon, Whole-Repository Stack Migration?

Modern software systems accumulate technical debt over decades of development, which makes migration expensive and largely manual. As coding agents become increasingly capable at bug fixing, can they autonomously perform such migrations? Existing benchmarks cannot answer this question because they evaluate only behavioural correctness, not whether the migration actually occurred. This leads an easy hack: agents copy the original implementation to make tests pass. We call this Blindness. To address this problem, we introduce SWE Refactor Bench, a benchmark comprising 20 whole-repository migrations, covering 4 kinds of technical debt. A three-stage evaluation protocol measures both migration completeness and behavioural correctness. (1) Migration Audit verifies that the migration occurred. (2) Behavioural Tests measure correctness with a fixed test suite. (3) Agentic Verification uses 6 independent coding agents to generate targeted tests for hidden behavioural differences. Across 520 runs from 8 frontier models and 26 model-effort configurations, only 28 of 520 runs ($5.4\%$) pass all three stages, 13 of the 20 tasks receive no accepted solution, and the best model (claude-opus-5) scores $47.0/100$. Migration completeness and behavioural correctness are distinct abilities: a few runs preserve behaviour by skipping the migration and are stopped at Migration Audit; most attempt it and break behaviour, and are stopped at Behavioural Tests. Agents cannot deliver a perfect migratio...
