What actually decides between agentic browsers:
- Reliability on real sites: Demos run on clean pages. Judge these on a site with a cookie banner, a login wall and a multi-step form, because that is what the web is.
- Prompt injection defences: A browsing agent reads the whole page, and a page can contain instructions aimed at the agent. This is the central unsolved security problem of the category — ask what the vendor does about it before trusting it with a logged-in session.
- Session and credential handling: The agent operates as you, inside your logged-in sessions. Understand what it can reach and whether you can scope it to specific sites.
- Where it pauses: Purchases, submissions and anything irreversible should stop for confirmation. Check that this is the default rather than a setting.
- Observability: You should be able to watch what it did and undo it. An agent that reports success without a trace is not auditable.
