Why 5 AI-designed bridges snapped under weight except one

Five frontier AI models got the same brief: design a bridge that spans 2 feet, using at most 500 g of filament and under 10 hours of printing. Kimi K3, Grok 4.7, GPT-6 Astra, Meta Muse Spark 1.3 and Claude Opus 5.5 each engineered one, and the designs were 3D printed.

Then the team stacked weights on each finished bridge until it failed. Kimi was disqualified, Grok did not finish, Meta's collapsed at 26.5 pounds, and Claude's design won by holding an estimated 130 pounds.
