Why scientists are strapping cameras to cockroaches
Researchers have turned cockroaches into paramedics. Each insect wears a tiny backpack: one version carries a camera and acts as an observer, the other carries an auto-injection mechanism for drug delivery. They work in pairs, steered by remote control through spaces too dangerous for human rescuers.
The goal is disaster response. Send the pair into collapsed buildings to find survivors, film what they see through an onboard camera, and deliver medication to the exact spot it is needed.
