Why a Simulated Fly Brain Is Learning to Fly Jets
A researcher wired a simulated fly brain, a spiking neural network trained on visual cues, to a virtual PS2 controller and let it fly a jet in Ace Combat. The network learned to recognize incoming obstacles well enough to actually issue a stop command before hitting a wall, instead of crashing blind like its earlier attempts.
It's an early step toward a universal, insect brain inspired controller that could eventually learn to play almost any game just by watching the screen.
